Since 1984, from our Parisian studios, the SANDRO creative teams have been creating ready-to-wear and accessories collections that blend elegance and modernity, while expressing a certain idea of Parisian allure.

Throughout our collections, our priority has always been to craft high-quality products, and to make luxury and style accessible. To this commitment to quality, we now add a greater responsibility towards the environment and people, and with it, a desire for transparency with our customers.

We want to go ever further in our efforts to build a more responsible and sustainable fashion. We have set ambitious goals, but the road is full of challenges.

On this journey, we wanted to open our doors to you more widely to show you the work already undertaken.

OUR MATERIALS

This is the starting point for creating our clothes and accessories: the selection and manufacturing of the raw materials they are made from. It is also here, upstream in our value chains, that the most significant part of our sector's environmental impact lies.

We select the materials we use with the greatest care. We aim to offer our customers fine materials, such as cotton, linen, viscose, silk, wool and cashmere, produced and processed using methods that limit their environmental impact.

Committed to improving the environmental footprint of the materials that make up our creations, we are focusing our efforts on more responsibly sourcing the most-used materials in our collections: organic cotton, Responsible Wool Standard (RWS) certified wool, Leather Working Group (LWG) certified leather and recycled polyester. In addition, 100% of our jeans are washed using a system that consumes 95% less water than conventional washing. These materials present a significant challenge from both an economic and a sourcing perspective. As they are in limited supply, we are making every effort to ensure their availability by strengthening our partnerships with our suppliers.

OUR DEFINITION OF A MORE RESPONSIBLE REFERENCE

At Sandro, a product is considered more responsible if it meets one or more of these criteria:

  • At least 50% of its main material is certified by environmental labels or trademarks recognised for their environmental credentials.

  • Some of the processing stages are certified by environmental labels (leather tanning, weaving/knitting, textile dyeing).

THE COTTON

Cotton is the world's most produced natural fibre and one of the most widely used in the textile industry.

Choosing organic cotton certified by GOTS or OCS standards is a more ethical and ecological choice. From seed to flower harvest, it is grown without pesticides, insecticides or chemical fertilisers, and is GMO-free. Its cultivation respects ecosystems, does not deplete the soil, uses less water than conventional cotton and is not toxic for the growers.

Recycled cotton comes from clothing collected by organisations or from fabric offcuts from the garment manufacturing process. After being sorted by colour and quality, these materials are shredded, broken down into fibres, and spun to create a fabric that is then used to make new garments.

Recycled cotton allows new clothes to be made without the need to grow more cotton, making it a very good circular alternative.
2025
Where we are now
93% of our t-shirts and sweatshirts and 62% of our entire cotton range are made from organic or recycled cotton.
2028
Our commitments
85% of the entire range in organic or recycled cotton by 2028.

THE WOOL

Wool, a natural fibre with many qualities, is distinguished by its durability, excellent thermal properties and its ability to be easily dyed. Found in our jumpers, suits, cardigans, dresses, coats and some accessories, it embodies a choice that is both functional and refined at the heart of the Sandro wardrobe.

The main environmental impacts of wool are linked to the greenhouse gas emissions generated by sheep farming, as well as the soil degradation caused by overgrazing. Its production can also raise animal welfare concerns.

At Sandro, we are committed to limiting these impacts by prioritising wool certified by the Responsible Wool Standard (RWS), a standard that guarantees both the preservation of ecosystems and animal welfare.

We also incorporate recycled wool, sourced from fabric offcuts or garments that have already had a first life. This approach allows us to make use of existing resources that might otherwise have been thrown away, and is fully in line with a circular economy model, which is more sustainable and responsible.
2025
Our progress
By 2025, 42% of the wool used by Sandro will be sourced from farming practices that are more respectful of animal welfare and the environment, or from recycled wool.
2028
Our commitments
85% of our wool will be sourced from farming practices that are more respectful of animal welfare and the environment, or from recycled wool.

OUR REGENERATIVE WOOL WITH NATIVA™

SANDRO is proud to collaborate with NATIVA™ as part of their NATIVARegen™ program, an international initiative that supports farms in adopting regenerative agriculture practices.

This approach is not limited to reducing environmental impacts: it aims to restore soil and water health, ensure animal welfare, and support local communities. The goal is to recreate balanced ecosystems where agriculture and livestock farming have weakened biodiversity and depleted the land.

By choosing NATIVARegen™ wool from Uruguay, we are also strengthening our commitment to traceability. Every fiber we use is tracked from the farm of origin to the finished garment, allowing us to tell the whole story behind each piece.

Starting with the FW25 season, several of our flagship models will incorporate this regenerative wool. And this is just the beginning: our ambition is to increase the proportion of NATIVARegen™ fibers in our collections every year.

VISCOSE

A staple of the textile industry, viscose is a versatile material used to create fabrics that are durable, soft, fluid and comfortable to wear.

It is obtained through a chemical process that recreates man-made fibres from plant-based cellulose derived from wood, cotton, bamboo or eucalyptus. A polluting and resource-intensive process that a growing number of producers are seeking to make more responsible, by acting on both forest management and the fibre manufacturing process.

At Sandro, we are increasingly favouring the use of viscose made from cellulose sourced from certified forests that are sustainably managed and respectful of ecosystems.

To take things a step further, we are also increasingly using LENZING™ ECOVERO™ viscose for our creations. Certified by the EU Ecolabel, ECOVERO™ viscose generates up to 50% lower CO2 emissions and water consumption compared to conventional viscose. The wood used to produce these fibres also comes from sustainably managed forests.
2025
Our commitments
100% of the viscose used by Sandro is sourced from at least sustainably managed forests. And within this percentage, 30% is the result of lower-impact manufacturing processes, such as Ecovero™ viscose.
2028
Our commitment
75% of our viscose will be sourced from lower-impact manufacturing processes, such as Ecovero™.

LEATHER

Leather, an exceptional natural material, is distinguished by its suppleness, body, elasticity and great resistance.
Thanks to these unique properties, leather pieces stand the test of time with style and durability. At Sandro, all our leather is sourced from the food industry: the hide, considered a by-product of this sector, is upcycled as part of a more responsible approach, helping to reduce resource waste.
The main environmental impacts of leather relate to the greenhouse gas emissions generated by livestock farming, the use of chemicals, the management of effluent and waste, and steam or dust emissions during the tanning stages.
Aware of these challenges, we have joined the Leather Working Group (LWG), a leading initiative that assesses and certifies tanneries based on their environmental practices, particularly in terms of water and energy consumption, and chemical management.
At Sandro, the leathers used in our more responsible selections are sourced exclusively from Silver or Gold certified tanneries, the two most stringent levels of this certification, guaranteeing a commitment to a more sustainable industry.

We also use Synderme for our Saffiano accessories range. This material is made from natural leather fibres mixed with a synthetic binder, which allows us to upcycle leather offcuts from the cutting process. Synderme is therefore a reconstituted leather, and as such can be considered a recycled leather.

Finally, some of our pieces are made from vegetable-tanned leather, an alternative to traditional tanning. This process uses a majority of natural ingredients (bark, fruit husks, plants), unlike conventional tanning which is synthetic in origin.
2025
Where we are now
89% of the leather used in our collections is sourced from tanneries audited by the Leather Working Group with better environmental performance.
2028
Our commitments
100% of our leather will be sourced from audited tanneries with high environmental performance.

POLYESTER

At Sandro, the choice of materials is an essential step in the creative process. Our designers are committed to selecting fabrics that guarantee an elegant drape, optimal comfort, and the greatest possible durability.

For some creations, the use of polyester or other synthetic fibres is necessary. Polyester, for example, allows for pleated effects that are impossible to achieve with natural materials, while also offering the advantage of being crease-resistant.

Conscious of our environmental impact, we prioritise, wherever possible, the use of recycled polyester, certified to the GRS (Global Recycled Standard) or RCS (Recycled Claim Standard), to combine technical performance with environmental responsibility.
2025
Where we are now
55% of the polyester used in our collections is recycled polyester.
2028
Our commitments
100% recycled polyester by 2028.
